A three-month vocational learning programme that develops the skills necessary for an entry-level individual to enter the digital industry, or for an existing digital company employee to learn the skills needed to help market the business.
The programme has been established by Digital Jersey following research into tech company needs which put digital marketing at the top of the priority list. We need more digital marketing specialists both within tech companies and to grow the skillset generally in the island.
This programme is therefore open to individual learners with either no, or very little digital marketing knowledge, and who are looking to enter the industry; or for existing tech businesses to nominate a member of staff who can be responsible for digital marketing in their company. Teaching takes place two evenings a week and so applicants are able to continue a full time job whilst on the programme. It will give learners a good degree of knowledge and competency but will not provide a formal qualification.
The programme will be based at Digital Jersey’s Hub, where learners can use the space for their personal learning and group projects. The programme will involve a mixture of classroom-based activity and self-taught study, with no examinations. The programme is interactive, utilising multiple media with a flexible format, and has been created, and will be supported by, ‘Mentors’ who are currently working in the Digital industry, so learners can be sure that what they’re learning is immediately relevant and up to date.

How The Programme Works
Learning digital marketing is hard – there is a huge amount of information available online and it’s a fast changing landscape. The programme structure ensures that students learn the right things in the right order, at the right pace, and makes sure learners are consistently given interesting real-life projects to work on with their peers, ensuring they don’t lose motivation.
Digital Companies seeking digital marketing talent
Digital enterprises in Jersey can apply to the course if they want one of their existing employees to learn digital marketing skills to boost their business. Companies looking for a full time digital marketeer can also apply to source a suitable fit between individual candidates taking the course and their company. We will also be using small digital businesses as case studies during the course, so if you want to be considered for this please contact Head of Digital Hub, Gwyn Garfield-Bennett.
Recommended Background/Entry Criteria
There are no minimum entry requirements. We look for applicants who are passionate about digital marketing and would like to pursue it as their chosen career; or we are seeking existing tech industry employees who will be providing additional benefit to their companies. We will not accept applicants from within existing PR/marketing agencies. We don’t expect applicants to have worked in the industry before but we are looking for learners who are genuinely passionate about this field and are able to demonstrate their passion through examples of projects, self-learning and experience.
There will be a short list of candidates drawn up, followed by an interview process to choose the individuals who will sit the course. It is therefore in your best interests to ensure your application is detailed enough to get through to the second stage. We anticipate this course being heavily over-subscribed.
After the three-month programme, learners will have a good working knowledge of digital marketing to aid seeking employment or to benefit their existing tech employer. Learners also leave the course with industry connections and exposure, as well as a portfolio of relevant and demonstrable work.
